Emmanuelle Schulz graduated from Ecole Supérieure de Chimie Industrielle de Lyon in 1989 and received her Ph.D. degree from the Université de Lyon in 1992 for studies concerning the total synthesis of Strigol, under the direction of Pr. P. Welzel at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany. After an industrial postdoc at RP Agro, she joined the group of Pr. M. Lemaire in 1993 and obtained a permanent position at the CNRS in 1997. She is now working in the Laboratoire de Catalyse Moléculaire at ICMMO since 2000 and was nominated Directrice de Recherches at the CNRS in 2005. She is the director of the Laboratory since January 2009.

Her research interests are mainly directed towards asymmetric catalysis. She is thus looking for new chiral complexes, efficient for performing catalytic asymmetric transformations meeting the criteria of Green Chemistry. She particularly explores the enantioselective hydroamination reaction of unsaturated bonds promoted by new chiral rare-earth based catalysts. She is also interested in the fine tuning of heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis. New procedures for the easy recovery and reuse of chiral organometallic catalysts are developed in her group. These methodologies imply the preparation of organic conducting metal-containing polymers by electrochemistry and their use as multipurpose asymmetric catalysts. Non covalent interactions such as those involved in charge transfer complexes are also exploited for the recovery of chiral catalysts. Those procedures are mainly tested in transformations involving carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond formation.
