After receiving his PhD in 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Laurence Mulard (Institut Pasteur – Université Paris Cité), focusing on the synthesis of glycoconjugate-based vaccines, Louis-Antoine Barel further specialized in glycochemistry and synthetic organic chemistry through two postdoctoral fellowships (ICMPE – CNRS de Thiais, University College Dublin, Ireland) and a position as Temporary Teaching and Research Assistant (ATER) at Université de Paris-Est Créteil.
In 2025, he joined Université Paris-Saclay as an Assistant Professor (Maître de Conférence) at the ICMMO, within the Chimie Bioorganique-Bioinorganique, Méthodologie RMN (CB2MR) team. His research focuses on the development of novel digital approaches towards the prediction and optimization of glycosylation reactions. By combining experimental and structural data, his work aims to standardize and exploit chemical datasets for the development of Artificial Intelligence-based tools capable of predicting reaction reactivity, selectivity, and outcomes, ultimately providing decision-support systems for synthetic chemists.
